Hiding in Plain Sight: A group exhibition with Daniel Sackheim, Preston Douglas, in partnership with Iconic Images Gallery at The Desmond Tower during Frieze Los Angeles
Undercover Muscles, Daniel Sackheim
Los Angeles – Wienholt Projects is pleased to present Hiding in Plain Sight, a group exhibition featuring photographic and multimedia works by artists Daniel Sackheim, Preston Douglas, and selections from Iconic Images Gallery artists, including Greg Brennon. The exhibition is on view February 28 – April 26, 2024, with an opening reception on February 28, from 7:00 – 10:00 PM.
The works exhibited in Hiding in Plain Sight present aspects of each artist’s practice that underscore their overall examinations of contemporary culture through the interlinked realms of photography and fashion. Each artist utilizes the tools and materials of these industries that often intentionally distort aspects of reality to instead reveal that not everything is as it seems on the surface.
Sackheim, photographing unstaged landscapes of urban life, employs noir sensibilities informed by his film and television background to emphasize the enigmatic nature of his subjects. Douglas’s mixed media zipper paintings made with fashion fabric examine the impact of corporatocracy in our lives through abstracted corporate logos. And Greg Brennon’s work featuring “history-writers and world-shakers at their most candid” highlights the duality of the public perception and unknown private lives of his subjects, encapsulated in his exhibiting photograph of supermodel Kate Moss, courtesy of Iconic Images Gallery.
