New York, NY – Taglialatella Galleries is excited to announce JETER, an artist collaboration with Major League Baseball and Russell Young.

JETER is a collection of artworks created by Russell Young, reimagining two iconic images hand-selected by the artist and Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, the five-time World Series Champion and 14-time All-Star shortstop. The unprecedented collection is highlighted by six unique, large-scale paintings of each portrait entitled “The Jump” and “The Swing,” which will be previewed on October 24th at Taglialatella Galleries in New York City.

About Derek Jeter | @derekjeter

By the time he stepped away from baseball in 2014 after a historic 20-year career, Derek Jeter had established himself as one of the most respected men to ever have played the game. In recognition of his on-field accomplishments and impact on the game, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2020. A five-time World Series champion and member of baseball’s exclusive 3,000-hit club, Jeter earned numerous accolades throughout his career in recognition of both his on-field skill and his commitment to the community, including: World Series MVP (2000); 14 MLB All-Star selections; 5 Gold Glove Awards; five Silver Slugger Awards; American League Rookie of the Year (1996); Roberto Clemente Award (2009); and Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award (2009). In 2017, the Yankees retired his No. 2 jersey and unveiled a plaque in the famed Monument Park in recognition of his historic career with the organization.

Jeter continues to be the driving force behind the Turn2Foundation,which he established in 1996 to give back to the communities with which he has a close connection, including West Michigan, Tampa and New York City. He satisfies his passion for inspiring young people through initiatives — like the Jeter’s Leaders program — that promote academic excellence, leadership development, positive behavior, healthy choices and social change. To date, the Turn 2 Foundation has awarded more than $34 million in grants to create and support signature programs that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and “Turn 2” healthy lifestyles.

About Russell Young | @bankrobbercalifornia

Growing up in Northern England, Young was drawn to the exciting and fast-paced worlds of music and entertainment in cities like London, New York and LA. He began his career working as a photographer and visual artist, directing music videos and shooting fashion models and rock stars including Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Perhaps most notably, Young photographed George Michael for the iconic Faith album sleeve in 1987.

After moving to America at the turn of the century, and becoming inundated by a new world of visual stimulation, Young applied his photography skills to the complex practice of silkscreen printing on paper, canvas and linen. Young’s work evolved quickly as he became the first artist to harness the “diamond dust” application as a primary medium – a process originally invented by the legendary Andy Warhol in the 1980’s. This new look catapulted Young to the top of an erupting art scene in the 2000’s, as he became known for his eye-catching contemporary style of painting with a luxurious yet raw aesthetic. Fame and shame.

Today, Russell Young is a house-hold name in pop art, exhibiting at museums and sold in galleries around the world, as well as major auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips. Young’s long list of collectors includes the Obamas, Brad Pitt, Floyd Mayweather, Pelé, Mark Zuckerberg, the Kardashians and more. With Jeter, Russell Young immortalized another legend in his canon of iconography from the lens of Americana and popular culture. This time, with motion. From the anticipation and excitement of a home run launched off a bat with “TheSwing”, to a mesmerizing throw from deep on the left-side of the infield, whipping the ball across the diamond from mid-air in “The Jump”. The moments are alive and magical, and Jeter will remain so for years to come.
