Los Angeles, CA – Artist and film production designer Aaron Osborne debuts his interactive, mixed media pop-up art exhibition All in the Cards, on view November 1 – December 16, 2024, with an opening reception on Friday, November 1st, 7 – 10 PM, at 6007 Waring Ave, with wine sponsored by Penfolds.

Drawing from his background and travels as a film and television production designer, All in the Cards presents mixed media artworks within the context of a reimagined “psychic shop.” The exhibition features large-scale, mixed media paintings from Osborne’s ongoing project based on the framework of the Major Arcana Tarot deck, immersive elements, film installation, an infinity box, tarot readings by artificial intelligence to investigate the ways in which technology affects spirituality and contemporary life, and on-site tarot readings by a psychic during the opening reception.

The paintings on view in the exhibition are interpretations of the symbolic Major Arcana cards that examine the interconnectedness and fragmentation of human beings as well as the ways we construct and interpret narratives about our lives. Osborne’s unique, strange, and sensitive paintings collage spiritual kitsch and cultural refuse to reimagine the tarot deck and its narrative function.

Only a few blocks from Paramount Studios, All in the Cards turns the artist’s personal history within the film industry into an exploration of Hollywood’s recent tribulations and the existential perception of society and culture on the edge of collapse. As psychics throughout history have been sought after to offer guidance about the future, All in the Cards aims to be a place of respite within an uncertain and often chaotic reality, acting as a place of both reflection and reckoning.

About Aaron Osborne

Aaron Osborne is a multimedia artist and an Emmy Award-winning production designer of film, television, and theatre.

Raised in New Rochelle, New York, Osborne studied at Syracuse University,  where he began his formal explorations into various artistic media, styles, and concepts. During the 1980s, in New York City, he participated in the city’s underground club scene, including 8BC, The World, and Dancetera, as well as avant-garde institutions like Franklin Furnace and The Kitchen.

Osborne eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he segued into production design, first working under cult director and producer Roger Corman, and co-founded Theater Carnivale, a renowned underground performance art troupe. Osborne recently designed sets for the Amazon Studio film Candy Cane Lane, and the upcoming Legendary Entertainment film Animal Friends, starring Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, and Aubrey Plaza. Other notable feature film and television credits include: The Good Lie starring Reese Witherspoon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang starring Robert Downey Jr., the pilots for Constantine, Community, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, and many others.

In 2003, Osborne received an Emmy Award for Best Production Design for Without A Trace. Osborne also received an NEA Grant for his play Acid Whorehouse, produced for New York’s Franklin Furnace Theatre and Los Angeles’ Tamarind Theatre, as well as the LA Arts Endowment Grant for his piece Peter Pandemonium produced at LACE.

Osborne’s current multimedia art practice fuses performance, conceptual, and visual art, often examining hidden narratives through abstraction and intertextuality. With his background as a production designer, Osborner’s visual artwork likewise incorporates interactive and immersive elements to create experiences that transcend traditional presentations of art. His ongoing multimedia installation, The STP Major Arcana Deck, incorporates elements of photography, collage, abstraction, and, more recently, artificial intelligence.

Osborne currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
