Russell Young’s Exhibition, Once Around, Revisits The Mugshots & Glamour Of Our Cultural Icons - PR for Artists

Russell Young’s exhibition, Once Around, revisits the mugshots & glamour of our cultural icons
Artist Russell Young’s silkscreen, diamond-dusted series, Once Around, exhibits at The White Room Gallery in The Hamptons

The Hamptons, New York – British-American artist Russell Young, renowned for his diamond-dusted silkscreen paintings of cultural icons, exhibits his series, Once Around, at The White Room Gallery in The Hamptons.

Photographing the early gigs of famous rock and roll bands in 70s, 80s London, and shooting over 100 music videos during the height of MTV in the 90s, Young began his career surrounded by icons. Since then, he has made his own indelible mark in the art world with his signature diamond-dusted, silkscreen paintings of cultural icons examining both the darker sides of excess and the allure of pure stardom.

Once Around is a collection of silkscreen and diamond-dusted paintings featuring the likes of Elvis, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Monroe, Kate Moss, Brigitte Bardot, and others. Pairing the infamous mugshots (some real and some manufactured) of these celebrities alongside the glitz and glamour of others reflects Young’s fascination with fame and its dual nature often oscillating between danger and promise.

Elizabeth Taylor once said: “I fell off my pink cloud with a thud.” The paintings in Once Around likewise fall from shimmering clouds with a cultural impact that continues to resonate with our understanding of celebrity today.
