Los Angeles, CA – Brittany Markert presents In Rooms III at The Loved One, a book launch, artist talk and photography showcase on Thursday, September 17th, 7:30 – 9:30 pm. exploring the symbolic thresholds between reality and the invisible.
In Rooms is an ongoing project rooted in analog photography and darkroom printing. The photographic work—ranging from early self-portraiture to more recent collaborations with artists and performers—draws from surrealism, occult symbolism, Jungian psychology, horror, and cinema to examine the emotional architecture of domestic spaces.
Originally released last year, the launch of In Rooms III at The Loved One marks the first time Markert has publicly discussed the book and its place in her now twelve-year body of work that threads together elements of psychology, dreams, memory, femininity, symbolism, and the hidden architectures of human experience.

There will be a showcase of photographs and prints from Markert’s body of work as well as an artist talk that delves deeper into her inspirations and the complex material that many tend to avoid but she approaches as part of the human experience.

ABOUT BRITTANY MARKERT
Brittany Markert (b. 1987, USA) is a New Orleans based photographer, darkroom printer, bookmaker, filmmaker, and educator. Her long-term project, In Rooms, explores the unconscious, feminine transformation, ritual, sexuality, grief, and psychological integration through staged interior worlds.
Her work has been exhibited in the United States, France, Denmark, and Belgium, including Brandts Museum, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Untitled Space in New York and La Luz de Jesus in Los Angeles. Markert’s silver gelatin prints are held in private collections in more than twenty countries. In 2017, she expanded In Rooms into 16mm filmmaking, furthering the project’s dialogue with mental health, inner life, surrealism, and the writings of Carl Jung. In 2026, she is in the early stages of building In Rooms Foundation, an infrastructure of care, support, education and affordable access for artists, women and seekers of truth.
