Bitcoin Art Society Launches Institution Dedicated to the Preservation of Art on Bitcoin
Founded by Serge Ajamian and Yara Al Chammaa, the organization seeks to establish Bitcoin as a permanent artistic medium through exhibitions, artist residencies, curatorial initiatives, and institutional partnerships

Los Angeles, CA – Bitcoin Art Society launches a new fine art institution dedicated to the creation, curation, presentation, and long-term preservation of Bitcoin-native art. 

Founded by Serge Ajamian and Yara Al Chammaa, the organization seeks to establish Bitcoin not only as a financial network, but as a permanent cultural medium capable of preserving some of the most important digital artworks of our time.

While much of today’s digital culture relies on private servers, centralized platforms, and technologies that may not endure, Bitcoin Art Society believes the next chapter of digital art history will be written directly on Bitcoin, where artworks can exist with unprecedented permanence, provenance, and public verifiability.

“Our mission is simple,” said Yara Al Chammaa, Co-Founder and Chief Curator of Bitcoin Art Society. “We are building the cultural infrastructure needed to preserve meaningful digital art for future generations.” 

The institution’s founding vision is rooted in personal experience. Following the devastating Beirut Port explosion in 2020, Al Chammaa witnessed the destruction of much of the artwork housed in her family’s gallery, prompting a profound reconsideration of how cultural heritage can be protected against both physical and technological impermanence. That experience became one of the catalysts behind Bitcoin Art Society’s commitment to long-term stewardship and preservation.

Unlike many organizations focused on blockchain collectibles or market speculation, Bitcoin Art Society approaches Bitcoin-native art through the lens of contemporary fine art, emphasizing curatorial rigor, historical context, institutional engagement, and long-term stewardship.

Establishing an Institutional Framework for Bitcoin-Native Art

Bitcoin Art Society was founded on the belief that Bitcoin-native art belongs within the broader history of contemporary art rather than existing as a separate technological movement.

Drawing connections to conceptual art, systems-based practice, generative art, participatory art, and digital preservation, the institution seeks to provide the curatorial context and institutional support necessary for this emerging field to mature.

Its programming includes:

Launching with International Recognition

Bitcoin Art Society has already introduced Bitcoin-native artworks across international venues, including:

  • The immersive 360-degree Galileo Galilei Dome in Buenos Aires
  • Large-scale LED installations in Abu Dhabi
  • NFC Lisbon, where the organization recently presented its vision for Bitcoin-native art to artists, collectors, builders, and institutions 

The organization’s inaugural Digital Artist Residency features pioneering artists BitArt and CyberSea, both recognized for pushing the boundaries of generative systems, on-chain creation, and Bitcoin-native artistic practice.

BitArt’s work has been exhibited and collected by leading institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, ZKM Center for Art and Media, and ICC Tokyo.

Introducing Mosaic

Launching alongside the institution is Mosaic, a landmark work by inaugural resident artist BitArt.

Neither a static artwork nor a conventional digital collection, Mosaic is a continuously evolving participatory artwork that transforms activity on the Bitcoin network into an expanding visual and sonic composition. Each contribution becomes permanently embedded within the work, allowing participants to collectively construct a living artwork over time.

Drawing upon the traditions of conceptual art, social sculpture, systems art, generative practice, and archival methodologies, Mosaic reimagines the relationship between artist, collector, and artwork. Rather than acquiring a finished object, participants become contributors to an artwork whose form continues to evolve while remaining permanently preserved on Bitcoin.

Through Mosaic, Bitcoin Art Society demonstrates how Bitcoin can function not only as a technological protocol, but as an enduring artistic medium capable of preserving collective cultural memory.

Supporting Artists 

Central to Bitcoin Art Society’s mission is its Digital Artist Residency, established to support artists exploring Bitcoin as a native artistic medium.

The inaugural residency features BitArt and CyberSea, two artists whose practices investigate the intersections of generative systems, code, authorship, and blockchain infrastructure.

BitArt’s work has been exhibited by and is held in the collections of major cultural institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, ZKM Center for Art and Media, and ICC Tokyo. CyberSea’s pioneering practice has expanded the possibilities of Bitcoin-native generative art through recursive on-chain systems and software-based artistic practice.

Throughout history, every transformative medium from fresco and printmaking to photography, film, and video has expanded the language of artistic expression while reshaping how culture is preserved.
