Los Angeles, CA – Artist, architect, and industrial designer Robert Obier has been selected as a featured participant in the inaugural edition of The Room: Art, Design & Human Connection, a new arts and culture initiative presented by Gensler Los Angeles in partnership with DCDG & Co. Taking place on June 16, 2026, at Gensler’s Los Angeles office, the invitation-only gathering marks the launch of an ongoing series designed to bring artists, architects, designers, and cultural leaders into conversation around creativity, culture, and human connection.

As one of the inaugural participating artists, Obier will contribute both to the day’s panel discussion and an accompanying exhibition of selected works. His participation reflects the interdisciplinary spirit of the initiative, which seeks to create meaningful dialogue between creative disciplines and explore the role of art within architectural and workplace environments.

Drawing on more than four decades of experience in architecture, industrial design, and fabrication, Obier’s multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between natural systems and the built environment. Through sculpture and mixed-media works, he examines themes of materiality, transformation, balance, and interconnectedness, creating works that bridge art, architecture, and environmental observation.

A graduate of Louisiana State University and ArtCenter College of Design, Obier has built a distinguished career spanning architecture, design, and fine art. His work is informed by a lifelong interest in how people experience and shape their environments, offering a perspective uniquely suited to the themes at the heart of The Room.

Moderated by Kevin Sherrod, the inaugural conversation will explore the intersections of art, architecture, design, technology, and community, while examining how creative practitioners shape meaningful human experiences through their work. Timed in recognition of Juneteenth, the gathering will create space for thoughtful dialogue around creativity, collaboration, authorship, and the future of human-centered design.

Accompanying the discussion will be a curated exhibition featuring works by participating artists integrated throughout Gensler’s Los Angeles office. Together, the conversation and exhibition aim to foster meaningful exchange among artists, architects, designers, collectors, and cultural leaders while highlighting the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration.

As the first collaboration of its kind between Gensler Los Angeles and DCDG & Co., The Room reflects a shared commitment to cultivating a more creative, connected, and culturally engaged workplace through ongoing arts and cultural programming.

About Robert Obier

Robert Obier (b. 1957 in Baton Rouge, LA) is a multimedia artist whose sculptural work bridges traditional craftsmanship and emerging technologies.

Drawing on a background spanning more than four decades as an architect and industrial designer, Obier creates works that explore the intersection of organic and mechanical forms, natural geometry, and speculative futures.

Obier combines traditional woodworking and metalworking with digital processes such as computer modeling, CNC fabrication, and 3D printing to construct objects that appear both excavated and futuristic: artifacts from imagined worlds that feel simultaneously familiar and unknown. His practice reflects a long-standing fascination with organic architecture, the mathematical patterns found in nature, and the visual language of cinematic world-building.

Obier’s work has received numerous awards from organizations including Society of Canadian Artists, National Art League, and Allied Artists of America. His work has been exhibited nationally at institutions and exhibitions including Alexandria Museum of Art (Alexandria, LA), Crocker Art Museum (Sacramento, CA), Art League of Hilton Head (Hilton Head, SC), and The Blanc Art Center (New York, NY), as well as art fairs such as Art Miami, The Hamptons Fine Art Fair, and the LA Art Show.

He lives and works in Baton Rouge, LA.
