In his evocative and prolific body of work, Smith explores the way nature, energy, and spaces define perception. His paintings and drawings examine the untethered ethereality, mining the forms and methods of mark-making, sacred geometry, and hieroglyphics. His photographs explore a similar terrain, dissolving traditional representation to reach elusive spiritual experiences.
Richard Lee Smith has an upcoming solo exhibition on May 20th, 2017 in Topanga Canyon, California. This show will feature Smith’s paintings, drawings, and one-of-a-kind photographic prints. It will be held in the beautifully rustic setting of a restored barn in Los Angeles’s historic hippie hideaway of Topanga Canyon – situated scenically in the Santa Monica Mountains between Malibu and the San Fernando Valley.
